7. Share the Good News
This is the seventh article in the series ‘10 Things to Do with Your Family This Christmas Season.’
We’re always busy — preparing food, planning activities, wrapping presents, making schedules. This season is a time of bustling and exhausting activities!
But even amid the flurry of excitement surrounding the next few days, let’s pause from our preparations and consider the night Jesus was born. There were likely many events that happened that day which were unremarkable, yet one stands out, etched forever in the pages of history; one truly, remarkable event that would change the course of history, the course of nations, and the very constructs of society. This night was prophecy fulfilled, encapsulating the love of God toward his people:
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. … And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. (John 1:14, 16)
This truly is good news for all people — a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Here is the living God come in human flesh. He humbled himself to come to his creation, to live sinlessly among us, to take on himself the sins of the world and bear the wrath of God. He did this to redeem his people and bring unto himself a holy people. What joyful tidings these are!
This is a trustworthy saying, worthy of all acceptance: that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners! We should be struck with awe and amazement, with wonder and praise, joy and thanksgiving. We should be filled with so much gratefulness that the burning in our hearts cannot be contained and the joyful news of salvation and of his Kingdom pours from our mouth in every conversation!
Christmas is a day not only to celebrate the good news of the gospel, but to share the good news of the gospel with others. Those that know and can rejoice with us, and those who do not know of His sweet love, who need the truth of the gospel — that Jesus died for the sins of the world, that we are saved from death and Hell and redeemed through His precious blood. This year, find opportunities to share the love of God and the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ. Be ready to wish a “Merry Christmas!” to those you meet, and to tell of his wondrous love in sending a newborn King, born for us.
