"[Man] is a creature of God, therefore, he must be aware of his Creator. Self-consciousness implies God-consciousness. In order to be conscious of himself as a creature, he must be aware of God, his Creator. In order to rid himself of this consciousness of God, he would have to escape from his humanity; he would have to cease being a man. This, of course he cannot do."
